Street, Parks, Fleets and Stormwater

The Streets/Fleet Maintenance Division has the primary responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the City transportation system, including approximately 66 miles of roadway. The City's transportation system consists of paved roads for residential, commercial and light industrial traffic, sidewalks for pedestrian traffic and bike paths. Additionally, the City has a total of four bridges that are critical to the smooth flow of traffic, providing easy access and convenience that is easily taken for granted.

The Streets/Fleet Maintenance Division performs simple tasks such as the repair of potholes in asphalt pavement, to much more extensive roadway repairs including the demolition and construction of curbs and gutters, along with the associated drainage structures.

They also are responsible for concrete construction and repair work throughout the City. Concrete work includes repairing broken or deteriorated sidewalks, widening sidewalks to facilitate shared pedestrian and bicycle use, as well as repairing sidewalks and driveway aprons damaged as a result of underground utility repair work.

They also conduct beautification projects like the landscaping of centerline medians and right of way. Tree trimming and mowing are additional responsibilities. If a task involves maintenance of the public right-of-way, the Streets/Fleet Maintenance Division is involved!

The Streets & Fleet Maintenance Division operates a computer-assisted sign fabrication facility. Fabricating new signs and repairing and replacing old or damaged signs is a full-time job! All City signs are replaced once every five years.

Fleet Division

The Fleet Maintenance section of the Streets/Fleet Maintenance Division is responsible for ensuring that all City-owned vehicles, heavy equipment and power tools operate in a safe and efficient manner.

This entails performing routine preventative maintenance and corrective repair on a diverse array of cars and trucks that allow the Police, Fire, Public Works, Parks, and Community Development Departments to conduct the City's business.

Fleet Maintenance maintains all vehicle maintenance records, receives and prepares new vehicles for service, and coordinates warranty and specialized repair work with outside service providers.
