Son & Mother: Art in Their Blood (The Artwork of Ken and Betty H. Austin)
April 30 – May 10
Opening Reception: May 10, 6-8 p.m
This amazing show features the work of local arts luminary, Ken Austin, as well as work from the woman who gave him a love for art, his mother, Betty H. Austin (1900-1989).  Ken, in addition to being a renowned artist and teacher, was an architect and city planner for 45 years, while also finding time to found the Central Florida Watercolor Society (CFWS) in 1998.  CFWS honored Ken at its recent 20th Anniversary Exhibit that took place during March in the Art House.  Ken will also be one of the honorees during the City of Casselberry’s Older Americans Month celebration on May 8.  Betty H. Austin was born on an Alabama dirt farm and went on to receive an education in some of the finest art schools in the US and Europe.  By the 1940s, with a BA in art, an MFA from Peabody, and studies at Academie Juliane, she embarked on a career in teaching and painting in oils, becoming a consummate representational artist, all while raising a family.  The exhibit will feature a special artist reception on Mother’s Day weekend, Friday, May 10, from 6-8 p.m.  For more information, contact the Art House at (407) 262-7700 Ext. 1122.
