Oil & Grease Management Program

The City’s Oil and Grease Management Program was implemented in order to protect the City’s sanitary sewer system from the harmful effects of discharging fats, oils, and grease (FOG) down the drain. When FOG is discharged into the sanitary sewer system, it can cause blockages in the pipe that lead to sanitary sewer overflows and can corrode the sewer pipes. In order to prevent the discharge of FOG, food-related businesses install grease interceptors and grease traps which capture the FOG before it can make its way into the sewer system.

All businesses, both new and existing, that prepare or serve food or drinks are required to be a part of the Oil and Grease Management Program. For more information on joining the program, please contact the City’s Environmental Coordinator via email or at (407) 262-7725 Ext.1716.

Homeowners that wish to help protect the City’s sewer system and surrounding environment can help by collecting their cooking oil in containers and disposing of it in the garbage instead of dumping it down the drain and by wiping out greasy dishes with paper towels before washing dishes
